Netflix Originals are expensive. Really expensive at something in the region of $3.8M an episode at minimum. The reuniting of Arrested Development was a bold move that showed Netflix meant business, but it didn’t entirely reveal what the ‘big vision’ was.
House of Cards stepped it up a notch with its unrelenting, beautifully shot, agonising drama. The figures quoted in the article explain why House of Cards is just so lovely, but perhaps displays the dangers of spending money to satisfy ambition so quickly.
